課程目標
During this semester you will read from the assigned text book, The Writer’s Response: A Reading-Based Approach to Writing (2012) 5th edition, and some assigned passages dispatched from the instructor, in preparation for discussion and writing. In addition, you will complete a variety of in-class peer reviewing activities and quizzes which are intended to indicate that you’ve done preview reading, that you completed the reading, and that you understand how to perform the skill we introduce during that class session. Since this class is focused on your progress of becoming a better writer, you will collect all your writing activities, in-class, after-class, comments from peer reviews, suggestions given form the instructor’s reading, during the semester, with some proper arrangement, into a writer's portfolio. During the semester, you will complete three writing assignments described briefly below and choose one to furbish into one finalized essay as your representative work for this semester. Additional instructions for each assignment will be provided as each assignment is introduced.

1. Writer's Short Biography / Personal Essay study yourself as a writer/explore your priorities; develop a philosophy that will guide your life decisions.
2. Narrative Essay examine an experience you have had and draw observations about life based on this experience.
3. Argument Essay take a position and develop an argument to support this position.
4. Writer’s Portfolio reveals how you've changed as a writer during the semester. Collect all practices to show evidence from your writings and responses to your writings.

Course Policies:

Attendance is expected. Because this course is designed as a workshop, you will miss valuable activities and instructions if you are absent. Peer reviews or in-class writing activities will be assigned every class meeting. Opportunities to help others while helping yourself are precious and could not make up in any way whatsoever. In the case of an excused absence (one for which you inform me in advance that you will be absent, or one for which you bring me an official excusea doctor's note, for instance), I will average in any missing points.

Extra credit may be earned by active participation and devoted contribution to class activities or lectures.

Late work is discouraged, and if without proper excuses, rejected. Assignments are due one day before class time in order to provide sufficient time for other classmates to choose articles for in-class peer reviews. Computers fail, so plan ahead. Save regularly; make back up copies of your work. Print hard copies of two articles for in-class peer review.

Paper format should follow some simple rules. 1) Use Times Roman (recommended), or any other fonts commonly used for prints, 12-point font, double-spaced. 2) Set margins at one inch on all sides. 3) Activate the page-numbering, upper right hand corner. 4) Include your name, student number, date of submission and versions of the submission at the top left corner at the beginning of your submission.

Academic honesty is assumed. All work you submit must be your own. Should I discover that you have conducted misdeeds of plagiarism or dishonesty, you will fail that assignment and possibly the course.
